Our Founding Story: Rebuilding American Agriculture

David Martinez and Jackson Walker, the visionary minds behind Xtaviya Hemp, set out to transform the landscape of U.S. family farming. Their mission? To breathe new life into American agriculture by creating a sustainable, domestic hemp supply chain.
The duo first crossed paths in 2008 as business students at the University of Denver, eventually becoming roommates and lifelong collaborators. In 2012, they introduced their inaugural product line: nutritious Xtaviya Hemp bars.
Their journey took them to Washington D.C., where they spent years advocating for hemp legalization. Their persistence paid off when their efforts contributed to passing landmark legislation—the first federal approval of hemp cultivation in six decades. Returning to their Colorado roots, Martinez and Walker, pioneered one of America's first commercial hemp supply networks, setting a new standard for agricultural innovation.

In 2017, Forbes named Martinez and Walker to their 30 Under 30 Food & Drink list for pioneering socially responsible hemp production. Their innovative work transformed U.S. agriculture by creating sustainable hemp supply chains that benefited both farmers and consumers. This recognition highlighted their success in building an ethical business model that revolutionized the industry.

David Martinez and Jackson Walker envisioned a purpose far beyond profits—they saw industrial hemp as a catalyst for economic transformation in struggling rural areas. Their company, xtaviya hemp, was founded with a mission to use hemp cultivation as a tool for poverty alleviation, particularly within marginalized farming communities.

In 2017, this vision took shape through strategic partnerships with Native American tribes. By introducing hemp farming initiatives, xtaviya hemp provided indigenous farmers with sustainable opportunities to reclaim agricultural traditions while generating new income streams.

"Our goal was never just about selling products," Martinez explains. "We built Xtaviya Hemp to establish a domestic hemp industry that creates jobs and financial growth for Black and Indigenous farmers—which is why our work with the 40 Acre Co-op is so meaningful. It's about restoring prosperity through agriculture."
